Ningbo Zhoushan Port Ranks #1 for Global Cargo Throughput in 202
The busiest port in China, the Port of Ningbo Zhoushan, located in east China’s Zhejiang Province, witnessed its cargo throughput reportedly exceed 1.25 billion tons in 2022, securing the first position worldwide — for the 14th consecutive year, per the port.
The port’s container throughput touched 33.35 million 20-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in 2022, ranking third worldwide. The container throughput surpassed those of all other large ports around the world that handled more than 10 million TEUs each year.
The total throughput thus far has exceeded 3 billion tons since 2010. The port received 538 million tons of goods from January to June this year alone — accounting for more than 40% of China’s total imports during the period.
In comparison with other Chinese ports, Ningbo Zhoushan is indeed an important gateway to international trade routes and it has played a key role in promoting cross-border trade and investment between China and Asia Pacific countries over the past decade or so.
