JNPT starts 2021 on a high
Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) handled 465,084 TEU in January, a growth rate of 9.14 per cent over the equivalent month last year, as the domestic economy rebounds with the easing of lockdown.
The total volume of traffic handled at JNPT during the month of January was 6.50 million tons, 9.98% more than the 5.91 million tons handled in January 2020. This includes 0.82 million tons of bulk cargo, against 0.59 million tons in the same month of last year, an increase of 38.98%.
Last month JNPT introduced a new tug boat, the 60 tonnes bollard pull Daisy Star. This is expected to assist the port in handling larger vessel types safely and efficiently.
