Iranian Vessel Loaded With Fruits Worth $1 Million Sinks In The Persian Gulf
On Wednesday, the head of Iran’s National Association of Agricultural Products mentioned that an Iranian cargo vessel, dubbed Self 2, sank approximately seven miles off the UAE port based in Sharjah.
Reza Nourani informed that the ship was loaded with 17 reefer containers comprising vegetables and fruits from Iran’s Bandar Lengeh for purposes related to sales and re-exporting in the UAE.
Nourani also added that the cargo that belonged to 15 Iranian firms was worth about 350 billion rials (over $1 million).
He told the Fars News Agency that the vessel, worth 650 billion rials (almost $2 million), drowned owing to a hole in the hull.
Mercury, a Hong Kong-flagged ship sailing close by, immediately rushed to the location, rescued the crew members, and informed Nourani.
Iran is one of the major suppliers of fresh vegetables and fruits to the Arab nations of the Persian Gulf.
